In poche parole le prestazioni ottimali si hanno mettendo i driver AM e inserendo questa dll per il OGL, giusto?
In percentuale, quali incrementi prestazionali garantisce l'inserimento di questa dll in giochi come Quake3? Questa dll in poche parole sostituisce la parte originale degli OGL con i mesafx? |

La DXTN.dll si occupa della compressione S3TC e per non incorrere in problemi di copyright è stato deciso di non includerla nel set di drivers ma di permettere a chi lo desidera di scaricare la versione compilata e sostituirla a quella "vuota". I drivers funzionano anche senza sostituire la libreria, manca però il supporto S3TC che in questo caso viene wrappato in DXTC (correggetemi se sbaglio), quindi le prestazioni sono pressoché le stesse in entrambe le condizioni. Nota, forse l'uso delle MesaFX diminuisce leggermente le prestazioni ma restituisce una qualità e compatibilità maggiore, per capire di cosa parlo bisogna fare un test di GLView con e senza MesaFX, nel secondo caso le features OpenGL supportate aumentano considerevolmente.

PS Normalmente, quanti FPS dovrebbe restituire la V5 in quake3 con massima qualità 1024x768 32bit trilinear etc. (tutto al massimo) nel timedemo1? Giusto per raffronto mi ricordo che la R100DDR stava sui 75-78FPS, la GF2Mx stava sui 40-45, la 4Mx sui 120. In teoria dovrei stare sui 60, no? |

In ogni caso si testava una 6000, non la 5500. Il mio scopo non è tanto fare bench a caso, ma verificare bene le differenze tra MesaFX e OGL originali, oltre che vedere la differenza usando la S3TC. |

Mi sa che quei test dovrai farli tu, solo così potrai farti un'idea precisa, cmq ti allego un test di OpenGL Geometry Benchmark fatto da peppos83, magari ti può essere d'aiuto.
La cosa migliore che potrai fare, quando avrai la Voodoo 5, sarà testare Quake III in Windows 98/ME con gli ultimi drivers ufficiali 3DFX e poi rifare il test con i drivers di Raziel + MesaFX + DXTN.dll...

Purtroppo dati reali ne ho trovato ben pochi anche sulla community 3DFX e di questo sinceramente ne sono rimasto un pò deluso: sembra almeno nel 50% dei casi che ogni tread debba divenire uno scontro tra vari fanboy di varie parti, quindi si sentono tante ca@@ate e poche cose utili. Io sinceramente non ho la passione per il marchio Voodoo così come per nessun marchio, però mi piacerebbe portare un pò di luce su questa scheda, magari anche per chi non ha vissuto quei tempi e vuole avere qualche info precisa. Sarei curioso anche di provare la Kiro2 e poi raffrontarla alla V5, però prima dovrei procurarmi una Kiro2 che è un'impresa assai ardua. |

Conan sono d'accordo con te sui giochi che vuoi provare, la Voodoo 5 va testata nel suo ambiente, Glide e OpenGL, cmq penso che per curiosità uno sguardo al Direct3D su giochi recenti ce lo darai lo stesso vero?
A proposito ricordati che UT2003, nonostante giri anche in OpenGL è un motore Direct3D e gli screenshots che hai visto su forumzone sono tutti in D3D, paradossalmente il gioco gira più lento in OpenGL dove per avere una fluidità decente bisogna usare i 16 bit. Riguardo a Quake III e RTCW non manca niente senza le MesaFX pertanto puoi vedere cosa cambia con e senza in termini di qualità e prestazioni, altri giochi che ti consiglio per i test sono tutti i derivati di Quake III e cioè la serie Medal Of Honor fino ad arrivare a Call Of Duty, di meno recente ti consiglio il primo Unreal Tournament in cui dovresti poter usare (io non ho mai provato) le textures S3TC del secondo cd (con la dxtn.dll), poi DooM Remake, Serious Sam, Undying e il primo Hitman. Come benchmark OpenGL prova DroneZMark e GLExcess.
