While yes, the raw read error rate value increased (sometimes, not in all tests) they seems not indicate actual problems we'd need to worry about. The intensive tests verified both the read and write capabilities of the drive, all data sectors overwritten, read back and verified that they can accurately store information. The tests show no damaged or bad blocks - and even no slower areas (where the blocks would be darker green, indicating that while the sectors could be read/written, they may take longer time than expected and we may see failure / problems later). So personally I feel currently (or even if the counter increases with 1000-2000 or so) we'd not need to panic: the current counter and the change does not indicate that a warning should be issued. Not only because the "Value" is far from the "Threshold" (as manufacturers can play tricks with these to show even almost dead drive as perfect) but because the intensive tests revealed absolutely no problems: no significant increase of error counter, no change of other (maybe more important) self-monitorig attribute and (most important) no problems with any data sectors, regardless of self-monitoring data at all. I must tell that you gave an idea about having any custom alerts, for example where it is possible to configure any attribute / number which can trigger an alarm. So then (for example) you can configure that you want to receive an alarm when this counter reaches 5000, 10000 or so. I can't promise that it will be available soon, but maybe in a later version - as this may help and give an other level of protection. |
