gabi.2437 Capisco cosa vuoi dire, anche se però io sono Più per il dedicarsi a uno o massimo due progetti alla volta (scelti in base al merito) al fine di non disperdere le risorse così da donare dei risultati alla comunità scientifica in tempi relativamente brevi,(e far progredire la scienza velocemente) per poi passare ad un altro progetto ......
Quindi sono un pò contrario al dover alternare, situazione quasi inevitabile con Bionic.
Mentre il folding@home garantisce lo sfruttamento pieno e constante nel tempo delle risorse.
Penso che ho spiegato il mio punto di vista.
Cmq come dicevo sono punti di vista sull' argomento e ognuno si regola in base a come ritiene più coretto.

Credo che molto probabilmente quando il folding@home giungerà a conclusione, passero cmq a Bonic alla ricerca di prog. Meritevole. (Sempre se non lo trovo al difuori del Bionic)

È ovvio che folding@home non finirà mai, per il semplice fatto che la ricerca prosegue sempre

E cmq BOINC (che non è bionico...ancora!) garantisce lo sfruttamento delle tue risorse

Ah ecco un altro vantaggio, supporto fino a 16core senza accrocchi con più client e stringhe aggiunte qua e là o client speciali (e cmq 16core è solo perchè ci han messo un numero eh...)

Il Folding in quanto Folding@home che studia come si avvolgono le proteine ha una fine ben precisa, visto che le proteine hanno un numero finito e i possibili modi per avvolgersi sono finiti.

Poi ovviamente dalle fondamenta Folding@home nasceranno altri progetti certamente, ma saranno qualcosa di leggermente diverso e prenderà un 'altro nome, magari con all' interno la parola folding.


Molto probabilmente salveranno anche i punti fatti per stimolare i vecchi utenti a continuare, ma comunque sarà qualcosa di leggermente nuovo, molto probabilmente riguarderà il trovare molecole che indurranno le proteine ad avvolgersi in modo corretto oppure molecole che attaccano le cellule con date configurazioni proteiche ecc.......

Per forza non c'è...

I tempi che danno riguardano le ricerche che hanno in corso, ovviamente si concentrano su alcune cose, se no non arriverebbero a niente

Ma teoricamente il progetto potrà considerarsi concluso quando si saprà il preciso ripiegamento di OGNI proteina, oltre alle varie versioni difettose ecc... cosa al momento improponibile, si conosce la struttura solo di ben poche del totale ...

È un argomento talmente vasto che una cosa è certa, ci sarà sempre qualcosa da fare

Un utente Tempo a dietro posto il link di una pagina del sito della stanford riguardante le comunicazioni sul progetto folgin@home ed era riportate le seguenti affermazioni, ovvero che si era passati dai 30 anni preventivati a meno di 3 (con quella velocità ) per concludere il progetto.
Ora devo uscire, però se vi fate una scorsa dei vecchi post dovreste trovare questa cosa .....

Non la riesco a trovare trai post vecchi (anche se ho fatto una ricerca estremamente rapida) , ne nel sito della Stanford (ma il mio inglese è scandente) quelle cose che ho detto sui tempi, anche se sono abbastanza sicuro che qualcuno prima di me su questo forum li ha dette. Ma.........!!!!!

Cmq il folding@home ha registrato un' altro aumento generalizzato ed è arrivato a quota 3,960petafloap. Quindi sempre più vicini al traguardo dei 4 peta !!!!
Forse già domani!!!! (Incrociamo le dita)

Ci credo a quello che dici, ma è anche vero che quella stima era legata alle ricerche che hanno attualmente in corso, se guardi sono solo su poche proteine, l'argomento non è infinito certo... come non sono infiniti i granelli di sabbia però a contarli ci vuole tanto :D

Oltre sei sicuro che non si conoscono tutte le proteine umane !!!!!
Io sapevo (ma ovviamente è più che possibile che sbagli) che la sequenziazione proteica fosse stata completata già da molti anni (Ora non vorrei dire fesserie, ma pensavo che si ignorasse soltanto per alcune di loro la funzione specifica, non le loro strutture).

Cmq Sopratutto per una questione di cultura personale mi sono ripromesso di studiarmi un po' l' argomento nei prossimi giorni.

In pratica tu ritieni che quelle stime non riguardavano tutto il folding, ma solo un parziale lavoro che si erano pre-programmati in origine.
Invece io quelle stime le avevo intese come valore totale del progetto.

Cmq il tempo certamente chiarirà questi dubbi ...... (Anche perché, niente niente alla fine del primo blocco di lavoro preventivato, come minimo festeggeranno :D )

E' stato completato il sequenziamento del genoma umano, ma il proteoma è argomento molto più vasto e complesso sul quale c'è ancora molto da sapere.
Perdipiù anche nel caso del genoma sono state trovate le sequenze di basi di tutti i geni umani, ma poi il modo in cui i geni vengono attivati ed inattivati, possono essere modificati o i modi in cui possono interagire l'uno con l'altro tutt'oggi sono stati spiegati solo in piccola parte.

Quali proteine abbiamo ce lo dice il DNA quindi si, le conosciamo tutte, però solo a livello di catena, questa catena poi deve appunto ripiegarsi ed è ciò che si sta analizzando, non solo da Folding ma anche da molti altri progetti diversi

Se ci fate caso le proteine che studiamo gira gira sono sempre le stesse (sul sito c'è una descrizione delle proteine dei vari progetti) e anche la struttura di una singola proteina va analizzata partendo da tante condizioni iniziali diverse...è un lavoro abnorme

Diciamo che a questo punto concordo che le proteine in studio attualmente (in quella che io ho arbitrariamente chiamato primo blocco) siano un numero relativamente piccolo, visto che riguardano solo le proteine associate a quel gruppo di malattie che prima ho elencato ovvero:
Morbo di Alzheimer
Morbo di Huntington
Cancro
Osteogenesis imperfecta
Morbo di Parkinson
....

e non la miriade di altre proteine conosciute e per lo più sconosciute che interessano i tantissimi alti processi umani, concordo anche che i possibili folding possano essere tanti per ogni proteina, ma definirlo un “lavoro abnorme” è un po' esagerato come termine.

Questa affermazione la ritengo leggermente ingenua, perché mi ricorda le tantissime affermazioni fatte sulla scienza negli ultimi 100 anni, in particolare per quanto riguarda l'informatica.
L' evoluzione scientifica (a patto che ci si investi molto) ha una crescita esponenziale, quindi non sottovaluterei la velocità dell' evoluzione scentifica.

Il punto è che il problema del folding è una cosa parecchio difficile da sbrogliare, ogni 2 anni fanno una competizione, il CASP, per testare nuovi metodi per calcolare le strutture, quest'anno si è concluso il CASP 8, poi ci sono molti progetti dedicati alle proteine come puoi vedere...e questi solo di calcolo distribuito, ci sono altri modi ancora fattibili solo in laboratorio, tipo la cristallografia, ovvero analizzano le proteine coi raggi x per veder la struttura (metodo lento e costoso però) ecc...

Non dubito che col tempo il tutto si velocizzerà tantissimo (basta vedere folding@home, ora ha a disposizione gpu velocissime e quadcore) ma è anche vero che è un campo sterminato quello che si sta studiando

Noi però stiamo parlando solo di una piccolissima sezione di questo campo sterminato, che però ovviamente va a bacetto con alcune altre piccole sezioni.

Cmq Bisogna dare il tempo al tempo e attendere ed investire sopratutto.
Cmq sarà interessante riprendere l' argomento tra qualche anno e vedere come sono cambiate le cose nei fatti e nella percezione dei tempi per il futuro.

In realtà il DNA, o meglio i singoli geni, consentono tramite trascrizione e traduzione di formare una catena di aminoacidi cioé un peptide.. poi le proteine non si formano soltanto in quanto la proteina è costituita da polipeptidi che si ripiegano in forme ben definite (struttura secondaria) che a loro volta assumono detemrinate conformazioni spaziali, quelle ad esergia libera più bassa (struttura terziaria) e spesso si raggruppano e si possono associare a gruppi prostetici (struttura quaternaria), ma oltre a tutto questo da ciascuna catena di aminoacidi che esce dalla traduzione tramite processi di elaborazione si possono formare proteine diverse..e questo può avvenire anche a monte tramite il diverso spicing degli RNA ad esempio.. tutti questi processi a partire dalle stesse sequenze codificanti di un gene fanno sì che si possano ottende motle proteine differenti tra loro..:)
Tuttavia per il momento mi pare folding si concentri sulla conformazione spaziale assunta dalle proteine, ovvero sulla struttura terziaria

Se la potenza di calcolo continuasse ad aumentare cosi`, i 5 Petaflops potrebbero essere raggiunti prima della fine della prima meta` di Ottobre. Comunque molto probabilmente, anche perche' gli incrementi recenti sono praticamente solo merito dei client Playstation3 arrivati grazie al Life with Playstation, ci vorra` piu` tempo.

Nota: Flops non e` il plurale di flop. Flops = FLoating Operations Per Second.
Flop senza S non vuol dire nulla. (Floating operations per ....).

Da come hai impostato la frase sembrava che tu da solo volevi mettere i 6 petaflops che ci mancano per arrivare a 10.

Parlando sinceramente ti dico che se non fosse per il folding@home sarei poco stimolato ad aggiornare periodicamente il PC, invece il folding mi stimola e mi fa sembrare più sensato spendere soldi per il PC, come si suol dire ti fa prendere due (o tre ) piccioni con una fava.

Le ati sono meno, però hanno un rapporto giusto tra numero di schede e numero di flops. Lo stesso che ha nvidia.
Quindi mi viene da pensare che le schede ati impiegate nel folding siano per lo più schede video top di gamma, mentre le schede nvidia sono più entry level e mid level, le quali facendo numero ma non avendo molta potenza abbassano il rapporto fra numero di schede e flops.

Mi sono un pò intortato, ma spero di aver fatto capire il senso :D

Ragazzi io ho un problema pazzesco.
Non riesco a spedire le work unit calcolate dalla cpu. Con la vga invece và tutto liscio. Come mai? Ho pure aperto, nel caso ve ne fosse stata necessità le porte del firewall di windows anche se fino ad ora non ho mai avuto problemi di sorta. :muro: :muro: :muro: mi deve spedire ancora, almeno da quanto dice il log il lavoro finito il 4 ottobre....

Ragazzi oltre che a perdere punti preziosi si avvicina la deadline e non riesco a finire il progetto.....

C'è da dire anche che le ATI sono state le prime ad integrare il client grfico, se ben ricordo era solo per la x1650 XT.

Al momento credo che ci siano problemi con i server. So che avrebbero dovuto effettuare un trasferimento per decongestionare le connessioni dell'universita` di Stanford.

È da attribuire a questo il crollodelle Nvidea ?!?!?!?!
Cmq ieri e altro ieri anch'io ho avuto problemi ad inviare UW CPU.
Qualcuno di voi ha problemi con le GPU ?
Cmq ora sembra risolto il problema per le CPU.

Cmq appena mi arriva la chiavetta access point la collego a internet dal salotto al pc via wireless e a palla col FOLDING :cool:

Cmq facendo una prova ho visto l'impostazione grafica del folding sulla console. E' spettacolare!
Fa vedere tutte le ps3, nel mondo in 3D, connesse al folding che stanno lavorando.
