ho provato oggi a installare la mia canon s300 su linux.....
ebbene, sembra funziare decentemente con cups e gimp-print come se fosse una s800, ma le foto sono un disastro.... :( :D

Canon has released GPL'ed driver for S300 long time ago, but not many people know about it. The website is in Japanese, but all you need is to download a couple of files. The installation guide is also in Japanese, but you just need to see how to add the filters in /etc/printcap.

It also has nice GUI for configuring the printer.

Note that drivers are not adapted to work with CUPS, require libpng.so.2, and are a little outdated.

sto provando a compilare....
sono tre pacchetti, il primo è ok
il secondo mi dà:

potevate darmi una mano :D

cmq credo che possa essere una bella notizia che la canon rilascia i driver delle sue stampanti (almeno di quelle nuove) e per di più con tanto di sorgenti :eek:

le istruzioni di installazione sono semplici....
installate i filtri per la vostra stampante, installate libpng.so.2 , cercate come disperati i filtri per cups (non ci sono tutti sul link che vi ho dato :( ) e riconfigurate cups normalmente....
ora potete stampare come se foste su win :D

mi piacerebbe sapere perchè fanno i driver per linux e poi li lasciano solo sul sito giapponese......

sono scettico, purtroppo non ho una sid ma gentoo, ho messo su una mandrake 10.0 al volo su una partizione vuota per fare delle prove ma nisba, non riesco ad ottenere il risultato del tipo

Ho passato la stessa odissea per i driver della mia canon i450 ( che in comune con la s300 ha il tipo di cartuccia e non so cosa altro eheh ).

Il problema è che sono driver di base....risoluzione di stampa ben al di sotto dei limiti raggiungibili dalla stampante. Se non erro siamo al 40-50% della qualità massima, praticamente tipo le stampanti di qualche hanno fa....molto inchiostro, poca definizione sembra stampato tutto in grassetto... :(

a beh anche a me tocca tenere win solo x stampare, xchè la canon i320 nn ha i driver sotto linux. ecco le stampanti sono un punto a sfavore x linux.

Errato, è una stampante ancora non supportata. L'avevo anche io, e ho risolto così:

venduta e comprata una epson ;)

Io ieri ho fatto funzionare il mio CanoScanFB630U , ma purtroppo noto che fa dei puntini blu nelle zone nere ( a volte sono 1 o 2 , a volte ne genera abbastanza da rendere la cosa noiosa ) , se poi comprimo l'immagine in JPEG i puntini scompaiono (penso che la compressione li nasconda e li confonda con lo sfondo nero) ma se tengo l'immagine scompressa si vedono . Anche stampando l'immagine scompressa si vedono .

Ho contattato lo sviluppatore del backend SANE di questo scanner e adesso vediamo che mi risponde e se si può risolvere :)

cosa intendi per "i filtri per cups?" che file devo cercare?
Ci sto perdendo l'esistenza dietro a 'sta stampante ...
forse intendi bjfiltercups-ppd-1.0-0.i386.rpm? Io ho installato:
bjfilterbjs300-2.1-1.i386
bjfiltercups-2.4-0.i386
bjfiltercups-ppd-1.0-0.i386
libpng.so.2

Ho provato a modificare il file /etc/printcap come descritto, o /etc/printcap.local; ma viene sovrascritto al riavvio del server cups. Ho provato a mettere l'opzione "Printcap /etc/printcap.new" dentro /etc/cupsd/cupsd.conf, in modo che non venisse sivrascritto. Niente. se dò "lpr -Pbjs300usbps" print.ps risponde "lpr: error - unable to print file: client-error-not-found", come se al posto di Pbjs300usbps ci mettessi una parola a caso, che so, "dfushnsdnfsonfso".
Come si fa a editare 'sto printcap se viene sovrascritto ad ogni avvio? E perchè non funziona una mazza? Insomma... COME MIN... HAI FATTO????

chi se ne frega di /etc/printcap, bastava riconfigurare cups normalmente, cambiando il file ppd e mettendo quello appena installato:

/usr/share/cups/model/canonbjs300.ppd

da

bjfiltercups-ppd-1.0-0.i386.rpm.
