Sfortunatamente non capisco come flashiare l'hdd HP26 (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52001-52500/sp52107.exe) nonostante abbia a disposizione i file per il flash. Ringrazio chiunque possa aiutarmi.

1. Download the file by clicking the "Download" or "Obtain Software" button and
saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where
the downloaded file is saved).

2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

3. This HP26 firmware does not support (boot time) ATA Drive Lock Password
Protection. If you have a Drive Lock Password set you will need to disable the
password before downloading the new firmware. If you try to download firmware
when the drive is locked, the firmware download will abort. Once this firmware
is installed, the drive will no longer support Drivelock Password protection.

To perform the update:

1. Boot the target system to your DOS-bootable USB key.

2. Change to the folder containing the utility files and execute the
appropriate .BAT file.

The utility will skip any drives that are not targets. It only updates drives
that have the affected model string. It will re-update target drives that
already have the correct firmware but no harm is done in that.

3. When all drives have been updated, you must POWER CYCLE the system to ensure
that the drives are fully updated.

NOTA: le utilità incluse verificano che sia presente un modello di disco rigido interessato

Il nuovo firmware risolve un problema ben pubblicizzato che potrebbe rendere l'unità
inutilizzabile dopo un ciclo di alimentazione. Sebbene le possibilità di guasto di un'unità siano
minimo, HP consiglia di aggiornare tutti i dischi rigidi appropriati come file
misura preventiva. Dopo l'aggiornamento, la revisione del firmware sarà HP26.

L'utilità inclusa crea una chiave USB avviabile DOS che conterrà tutti i file

PREREQUISITI:
NOTA: l'utilità di aggiornamento del firmware non può aggiornare le unità che sono membri di
Array RAID. Tuttavia, è possibile rimuovere temporaneamente il sistema dal RAID

numero di porte SATA attive. Se sono presenti molti dischi rigidi di destinazione, potrebbero
devono essere temporaneamente collegati a porte inferiori per l'aggiornamento.

- 2 MB di spazio libero sono necessari sul sistema su cui verrà installato il SoftPaq
scaricato.

- Una chiave USB avviabile con almeno 1,1 MB di spazio libero o una chiave USB che può
essere riformattato è necessario.

ISTRUZIONI PER L'INSTALLAZIONE:
NOTA: Si consiglia VIVAMENTE di eseguire un backup del sistema prima di
l'installazione di questo aggiornamento.

1. Scarica il file facendo clic sul pulsante "Download" o "Ottieni software" e
salvare il file in una cartella sul disco rigido (prendere nota della cartella in cui
il file scaricato viene salvato).

2. Fare doppio clic sul file scaricato e seguire le istruzioni sullo schermo.

3. Questo firmware HP26 non supporta (all'avvio) la password di blocco unità ATA
Protezione. Se hai impostato una password per il blocco dell'unità, dovrai disabilitare il file
password prima di scaricare il nuovo firmware. Se provi a scaricare il firmware
quando l'unità è bloccata, il download del firmware verrà interrotto. Una volta che questo firmware
è installato, l'unità non supporterà più la protezione con password di Drivelock.

Per eseguire l'aggiornamento:

1. Avvia il sistema di destinazione

A questo purtroppo no so rispondere con certezza, ma devo immaginare che se l'aggiornamento è possibile effettuarlo solo col disco montato sulle workstation specificate, il programmatore abbia previsto un check in tal senso e il programma non effettui l'aggiornamento su altre macchine.

Comprendo, ma temo che non hai molte scelte. Lasci tutto com'è bug compresi o ti avventuri per l'aggiornamento del firmware. Chiaramente un backup delle cose che non intendi perdere è obbligatorio, come del resto consigliato dallo stesso produttore del firmware.

So che l'hdd in stato busy non è aggiornabile ovviamente perchè non viene riconosciuto nemmeno dalla scheda madre infatti ho comprato il kit per farlo uscire dalla modale busy e adeso e visto dal pc e parte anche il sistema operativo.

Va aggiornato dal DOS puro (quindi non col CMD di windows).

Hai estratto i files dal SP52107.exe ?
Puoi fare tasto destro sul file che hai scaricato ed estrarre il contenuto con Winrar.
Poi segui le istruzioni contenute nel file "MAKEIT.txt"
... che riporto direttamente qui sotto:

This update requires you to reboot the machine that has hard drives to be updated
into the DOS operating system from a bootable USB-Key drive.


=====Format USB-Key as Bootable method=====

Note that this is a two-step process:
a) First, the USB-Key must be formatted as a DOS-boot device, unless you already
have a key set up that way.
b) Then, the utility and other files must be copied to the USB-Key.

Format the USB-Key (if needed):
1) Using Microsoft Windows Explorer, navigate to the directory where you installed
this update (the default installation directory is C:\swsetup\#####).
2) Double-click HPUSBFormatter.exe and follow the on-screen instructions to install
the application.
3) Insert your USB-Key.
4) ***IMPORTANT***: Back up any important files from your USB-Key at this time. You
will need to format your USB-Key in the next few steps, thereby destroying any
data on your USB-Key.
5) From the Start menu, choose Programs, Hewlett-Packard Company, HP USB Disk Storage
Format Tool.
6) Choose your device from the drop-down menu. Ensure that "FAT" is selected. Choose
to "Create a DOS startup disk," "using DOS system files located at
C:\swsetup\#####\usb_files\.
7) Start the format.
8) After the format is complete, close the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool program.

Copy the utility and other files to the USB-Key:
1) Using Microsoft Windows Explorer, navigate to My Computer.
2) Note the drive letter of the recently formatted USB-Key (for example: F:).
4) Using Microsoft Windows Explorer, return to C:\swsetup\#####\.
5) Navigate to the usb_files\ directory.
6) Select ALL files in this directory. From the menubar, choose Edit > Copy.
7) Using Microsoft Windows Explorer, navigate to the recently formatted USB-Key
(for example: F:). From the menubar, choose Edit > Paste, to paste the files
onto the USB-Key at the root folder level. Select Yes to All for file overwrites.

Your USB-Key is now ready. Now follow the instructions in "Performing the Update," which

This method assumes you already have the DOS operating system on a bootable USB-key and
only need to copy the utility and other files to the key. In this case, the files are
copied to a sub-folder in order to avoid overwriting any of the DOS
files at the root folder of your bootable medium.

The utility files may be large, so be sure they will fit on your USB-key before starting
the copy.

Note that HP testing is only done with the version of DOS created by the other methods
described in this file. HP cannot be responsible for issues associated with the DOS you
already have, so if you encounter trouble, consider trying one of the other methods.

1) Insert your USB-Key into a port on the system where you unpacked this update.
2) Using Microsoft Windows Explorer, navigate to My Computer.
3) Note the drive letter of the USB-Key (for example: F:)
4) Using Microsoft Windows Explorer, navigate to the directory where you installed
this update (the default installation directory is C:\swsetup\#####).
5) Right-click the usb_files\ directory and select Copy.

NOTE: It is STRONGLY recommended that you perform a system backup prior to installing this update.

NOTE: The firmware update utility cannot upgrade drives that are members of RAID arrays.
However, it is possible to temporarily take the system out of RAID mode, perform the upgrade
on the target drives, and then put the system back into RAID mode. Because the firmware upgrade
does not affect the data contents of the drives, including their RAID membership data,
the array will operate normally when the RAID mode is restored. In all the supported workstation
models for this update, the SATA controller mode can be managed via options
in the BIOS F10 Setup interface. For specific instructions, see the manual for your computer model.
This mode management does NOT involve deleting or creating RAID arrays.

NOTE: When using the USB key method on the HP Workstation xw9400, it is necessary to disable the
SATA Option ROM in order for the utility to successfully scan the SATA bus. Some of these
temporary changes reduce the number of active SATA ports. If many target hard drives are present,
they may need to be temporarily connected to lower ports for the upgrade.



Once you've created your DOS bootable USB-key, follow these steps:

1. Boot the target system to your DOS-bootable USB-key.

Quello che ricordo ad esempio, che non mi sembra venga menzionato nelle istruzioni in inglese" è che il bios deve essere impostato in IDE mode (Legacy mode), se è impostato in AHCI o in RAID non funzionerà.

Non è certo uno strumento che può acquistare l'utente finale, nel senso che sarebbe troppo costoso da acquistare per fare un aggiornamento del fw o anche un semplice recupero dati del proprio hdd guasto.
Ha senso acquistarlo se poi si ha un ritorno del denaro speso, cioè se lo si usa di mestiere.
