Ciao, scusate la domanda ma ho appena messo il naso in linux
dopo aver fatto l'installazione di ubuntu 8.04 su disco primary slave, in ambiente ubuntu non si vede niente del disco master primario.
in particolare il mio pc ha due dischi rigidi: il master primario (con 2 partizioni, nella prima xp) da 80 gb, e slave primario (con ubuntu) da 40 gb
nella fase di installazione il master non lo vedeva e ha installato sullo slave.
cambiando nel bios le sequenze di boot, riesco a usare sia xp (con hdd0) che ubuntu (con hdd1).
se invece lascio come primo boot hdd0, mi chiede quale SO voglio usare ma mentre per xp non da problemi, per ubuntu si ferma con initramfs
in ubuntu se faccio i comandi mount o fstab non vede comunque mai il disco da 80 gb, e l'altro lo chiama sda (non dovrebbe essere sdb?)
vi prego di aiutarmi
il disco master è NTFS ma non cambia niente anche con NTFS-3G (che perdipiù non mi lascia mettere la spunta a dischi interni)

Ma WinXP lo vedeva l'altro hard disk prima che lo utilizzassi per mettere Linux? I ponticelli situati sul retro dell'hard disk sono posizionati secondo il risultato desiderato?
sì, prima (e anche adesso) xp lo vedeva. prima di linux era formattato ntfs se non mi ricordo male. poi dopo averlo formattato in fase di installazione in ext3 ho dovuto installare un software per farglielo vedere
i ponticelli sono configurati per disco xp primary master e linux primary slave
sono sempre stati così, non so bene quali siano le conseguenze

Potresti provare a resettare i valori del BIOS o aggiornarlo se non hai l'ultima versione.
Anche messaggi del genere "ACPI: Invalid IRQ 0" sarebbe meglio che non ci fossero. Eventualmente si può provare ad avviare Linux disabilitando l'ACPI.
Scusa la domanda, ma mi puoi spiegare nel dettaglio cosa fare?
non ti pare strano che il bios però per xp funziona bene?
che cos'è l'ACPI? e come si fa fare partire linux disattivandolo?

È insolito, certo.
Se vuoi provare a eseguire Linux senza ACPI (http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACPI), quando ti appare il boot manager, GRUB, dovresti avere la possibilità di inserire dei parametri aggiuntivi, in questo caso si tratta di acpi=off.
Ho provato a cambiare l'APCI.
l'ho messo disabled nel bios, perchè nel GRUB non ho trovato niente se non un memtest
purtroppo non è cambiato niente.
mi fa davvero strano che nella schermata che ti ho messo prima, lo riconosceva ma poi non riusciva ad identificarlo
boh?
il bios ho paura ad aggiornarlo, non vorrei incasinarmi ancora di più...

ACPI viene impiegato da Linux nel tuo sistema. Bisognerebbe vedere se gli errori che segnalava, limitati ad alcuni IRQ, si ripresentano sotto altra forma... Comunque, ho l'impressione che tu non abbia fatto chi sa quali modifiche al BIOS, quindi anche l'idea di ripristnare i valori originali la possiamo tralasciare.
Se il BIOS non lo vuoi aggiornare, varrebbe la pena controllare se è la versione più recente, ed, eventualmente, se è possibile con questo produttore di schede madri, leggere le modifiche che sono state apportate.
Ti ho trovato questo link di una persona che ha avuto una simile disavventura, magari si adatta anche al tuo caso: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=689266
Un'altra possibilità è provare con il CD di un'altra distribuzione Linux, senza installarla, giusto per vedere se l'altro 'hard disk viene o no visto.
Sempre che qualcuno non capisca meglio di me cosa succede nel tuo PC.
